  • A Human’s guide to testing AI

A Human’s guide to testing AI What does it mean to test AI? If you look at the spam detection feature in your email, it sometimes works, less often doesn’t. Even if you flag items as not spam, some again show up in spam after some time. You could categorize that as a machine learning FAIL?Amazon recommends books related to your purchase. Some of them make sense. Others don’t. Hopefully the algorithm learns and gets better over time. Are the incorrect recommendations a failure of the algorithm? Isn’t it expected that recommendations will learn and improve over time? So, failures are in fact not failures? What does it really mean to test AI?Do you test the way the algorithm ‘learns’ and improves? You could test with real world data. Are you testing the math? Can you test the math? What is ‘AI’?Providing a concise definition of AI (artificial intelligence) may be excruciating. The quote below is good enough context for this article (from a Human’s Guide to Machine Intelligence).AI involves enabling computers to do all the things that typically require human intelligence, including reasoning, understanding language, navigating the visual world, and manipulating objects. Machine learning is a subfield of AI that gives machines the ability to learn (progressively improve their performance on a specific task) from experience-the aptitude that underlies all other aspects of intelligence. If a robot is as good as humans at a variety of tasks but is unable to learn, it will soon fall behind. For that reason machine learning is, arguably, one of the most important aspects of AI.In[…]

  • Day 24 Web Accessibility Law in UK

Day 24 Web Accessibility Law in UK Although the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 began to address website accessibility, it wasn’t until the Equality Act of 2010 (EQA) that legal protections for people with disabilities really expanded online. The Equity Act formally addressed that websites needed to comply with equal access and web accessibility standards.Section 20 of the EQA required service providers to take reasonable steps to provide an equal experience for people with disabilities both online and offline. Section 29 of the Act prohibits discrimination by failing to provide adequate accommodations for use.Additional regulations were also passed into law in 2018. The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 covered public sector websites and mobile apps.Who Does Web Accessibility Law Benefit? There are more than 13.9 million people classified as disabled in the U.K. representing 22% of the total population. In Ireland, 13% of the population has a disability. That’s approximately 643,000 people.Under the Equality Act 2010, you are classified as disabled if you have either a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term negative impact on the ability to perform normal daily functions. This includes people with impaired vision, motor difficulties, deafness or hearing impairment, cognitive impairments, or learning disabilities.Who Is Required to Follow U.K. Web Accessibility Laws?Throughout the U.K., government agencies and businesses are required to provide equal access to users with disabilities. While the specific ways organizations must comply are not listed explicitly, following the web content accessibility guidelines and recommendations published by the World Wide Web[…]

  • How to & how NOT to write test cases

Anti-agile test case writing: – Extremely lengthy test cases for every scenario anyone has ever thought of, and make sure not to rank them – Then do a ‘regression testing’ cycle and try execute all of them – Then try to code ALL the written tests as automated scripts Test case writing the Agile way: – Collaborate to identify acceptance tests in Three amigo sessions – these are highest priority scenarios – Automate tests across the tech stack – and DON’T document them – they exist in your code already – Write checklists to serve as heuristics / references to do exploratory testing The post How to & how NOT to write test cases appeared first on Quality Spectrum.
